Number of Ordinances
for Consideration by
Council Tonight

Four ordinances will come up this evening for action by the city fathers.

One to be introduced by Alderman Ward is to make Salem an unhealthy place for idlers. It is an amendment to the vagrancy law and provides that all men between the ages of 18 and 50 years who are not working shall come under the provisions of the vagrancy law.

Another is to prevent the sale by boys under the age of 21 years of junk to the second hand stores. It is a known fact to the police that when a boy steals, he knows he can dispose of his goods to the junk or second hand stores. Under this new ordinance, the boy can dispose of no goods unless accompanied by one of his parents or unless he has a written consent. The law will be appreciated by owners of automobiles.

Another proposed ordinance is that of appointing a board of censors for moving pictures. Although the majority of pictures shown in the city have had the approval of the Portland board, considered the most severe in the country, efforts have been made to have a board in Salem to include the mayor chief of police and city police matron.

To properly control contagious diseases in the city and provide means whereby the city physician may trace the source of such diseases an ordinance will be introduced tonight,
