SEATTLE, June 18 - Alaska is to have "A King for a Day," it has been announced by Frank H. Whaley, managing director of the Alaska Visitors Assn. The King is to be chosen July 4 on Betty White's "Queen for a Day" TV and radio program which runs daily from Hollywood.
Miss White made arrangements for AVA cooperation by long distance telephone with Whaley soon before he left Seattle with his family to drive north to Anchorage. The King will be awarded a trip to Alaska on Pan American World Airways.
The schedule calls for the King to be in Anchorage July 11 and 12 and in Fairbanks July 13 and in the arctic July 14. He is to be accompanied by his wife.
Upon his return to the States, the King will again appear on the show to display mementos of the Alaska trip, and tell audiences about it.
