BOSTON, Dec. 11 (UP)—Here's another one of those "it's a small world" yarns.
Two veterans of the battle of Manila—John J. Gallagher and William J. McDonald—met recently at veterans' meeting for the first time in 44 years. Gallagher helped transmit Admiral Dewey's famous message, "You may fire when ready, Gridley," and McDonald was assigned to escort Aguinaldo, Filipino insurrectionist leader, to Dewey's flagship.
The two had lived within three streets of each other in Dorchester for many years, but had not met since 1899.
