LONDON, Oct. 7.

Extract of a letter from Paris, September 6.

"An odd affair has lately happened. A young English lady in one of our monasteries, in the midst of the very ceremony of taking the veil, shrunk from her resolution. On being asked whether it was through her own inclination she was going to take the habit of the holy order, she very faintly answered, yes.--On the priest addressing her in these terrifick terms, "Avez vous assez de courage pour embrasser les traves & les austerites de cet ordre?" Will you have sufficient courage to embrace the labours and austerities of this order? she answered emphatically, No! -She is a very pretty girl, but very unhappy. She has relations here, who are much disgusted with her conduct."
