Party of Minnesota Capitalists Inspect Gas Works and Other Property.
A distinguished party of Eastern capitalists were the guests yesterday of G. M. Nelson at the Rainier. They were: Samuel Hill, son-in-law of President J. J. Hill, of the Great Northern; J. B. Atwater, attorney for the Minneapolis Trust Company; E. C. Whitney, president of the Mississippi and Rum River Boom Company, all of Minneapolis, and A. W. Krech, of St. Paul, who is a son-in-law of D. C. Shepard and a member of the firms of Shepard, Sims & Co. and Shepard, Henry & Co. Mr. Hill is president of the Minneapolis Trust Company, and is also president of the Montana Central railroad, extending from Butte to Great Falls. Mr. Whitney is one of the largest lumber and timber men in Minnesota, and is also a director of the Minneapolis Trust Company. The party are inspecting various investments in the West in which they are interested, and making a general tour of observation. Their visit to this city was for the purpose of inspecting the plant of the Seattle Gas and Electric Company, of which Mr. Nelson is the managing director. An issue of bonds will soon be placed on the market by this company, the proceeds of which will be devoted to extensive betterments of its plant, and the underwriting of these bonds by the Minneapolis Trust Company is thought to be one of the reasons for the personal inspection made yesterday. The party left last evening for the East, but may return again in a short time from Spokane.
