Asphalt Plant to Get Machine

To reclaim scrap asphalt for street repair, the municipally owned asphalt plant, 16th and Canal Sts., will receive a $4,000 asphalt pulverizing machine as an addition to its equipment within the next two weeks.

According to Paul Johanning, mechanical engineer, public works department, the machine will pay for itself within a year by reducing the amount of hand labor now used.

"It also will increase the city's output of reclaimed asphalt by 25 per cent," said Mr. Johanning.

Heretofore the asphalt was broken up by hand. With the new crusher more asphalt than was formerly produced can be crushed finer, according to Mr. Johanning.
