Quarrel of Men Who Guard Convicts End Fatally.

Waycross, Ga., Feb. 14.—L. E. McElroy, a convict guard, was shot and instantly killed by L. S. Ricketts, also a convict guard. The killing occurred at W. M. Turner's convict camp at Astoria, Ga., near this city.

Saturday the men quarreled over some trivial matter, and Sunday, while Ricketts was on duty guarding the convicts from a stockade mill tower, McElroy started up the steps to the tower with an open knife in his hand, according to witnesses.

Ricketts warned McElroy to keep out of the tower, and as the latter kept advancing with the open knife, Ricketts fired, the contents of a shotgun entering McElroy's body.
