FRENCH NEWS.

The advices which we have received from France are of a most gloomy nature. The emperor is resolved to assign no limits to his rapacity and injustice, but wherever his power extends on the continent, he is determined to plunder American property. His apology for renewing these outrages, is the partial repeal of the embargo in favour of England.

It should be remembered that, the secretary of the treasury's construction of the law partially repealing the embargo, allowed our merchants to trade to Holland. It was denied at the time that under the law, that trade was permitted, as it was certain, Holland was a possession or dependency of France. Buonaparte's power was as absolute in Holland, as in any part of the French empire. Wherefore then, was this trade permitted? No doubt to embroil us with England; to invite the British to capture our vessels; but administration is caught in its own toils.

We learn by the advices from France, that Buonaparte first invited our merchant vessels to enter the ports of Holland, and as soon as he got them within his grasp, he seized and sequestered them. By what milder name than perfidy, will the democrats call such an act? It is all "perfectly fair and perfectly just," to use the language of the Whig. Buonaparte is fighting the battles of humanity, he is fighting our battles, and the property of our merchants ought to be seized and sold, to defray the expences of his continental war." What say you Americans is not this the fact?
