Full Text
We inserted last week a paragraph from the Providence City Gazette, relating to the nomination of Mr Webster for the Presidency, by the National Intelligencer ; not, however, with the most remote suspicion that it had any real foundation, but merely that the writer, who appeared to be one of those busy bodies whose greatest affliction is the fear that they will not have the credit of knowing every thing, might enjoy the credit of showing all that he does know. The time has past, and the promised nomination does not come. Then this wonderful man publishes the following, not less ridiculous and quite as wonderful as the first, which will give him the opportunity again in a "day or two," of confessing his mistake.
The Nomination of MR WEBSTER.
We were in an error, in stating a few days since that Mr Webster would be nominated, in the course of this week, by the National Intelligencer, a candidate for the Presidency. We are informed that the nomination is to be made in a newspaper, established for the purpose, the first numbers of which will probably reach this city in a day or two.-Prov. City Gazette.
