HOLMES ELEMENTARY

Our regular Parent-Teacher Association meeting will be held on Monday, March 5 at 8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Mrs. A. Mickin's fifth grade class will present a program. We are urging our parents to attend this meeting. To those parents who have been unable to attend this school year, we ask you to make this your first. We welcome you.

Again, our assembly program was one that supplied us with much potent factual information, as well as entertainment. Mrs. V. Williams' sixth grade class presented a Brotherhood program, well depicting the importance and significance of Brotherhood Week.

Mrs. E. La Fleur's fourth grade class will present the program on Thursday, March 8.

We exceedingly regret the absence of Mrs. D. C. Smith because of illness. We wish for her a speedy recovery. Substituting in Mrs. Smith's place is Richard Cohen, a former member of our faculty prior to induction in the army. We are happy to have Mr. Cohen with us.

As a result of having heard a discussion by Dr. Leo J. Brueckner, an authority of many arithmetic textbooks, and a nationally prominent authority in the mathematics field, at Phyllis Wheatley School on Friday, the teachers of Holmes will engage in a workshop making instructional aids for providing for more meaningful and clearer concepts of arithmetical functions. Mrs. R. Blacknell, our art consultant, will guide us in this activity.

Our weekly practicum experience on Tuesday is one that exhibits keen interest in the task before us. It is invigorating to observe teachers researching and discussing in preparation for participation.

Many of our pupils visited the "Classroom Progress, U. S. A." train on Monday. Parents and friends provided us with transportation by driving car loads. To those precious people we say, many thanks for assisting in availing to our children the opportunity to attain such valuable educational information.
