Editorial

We are shocked at the news of an airplane crash, especially if locals are involved or if the accident happens near our vicinity.

Four people killed and one injured while riding in a plane is news, but the hundreds are killed or maimed on the highways in the states only get passing comment in the London morning newspapers.

It is a matter of becoming used to such occurrences that make them commonplace.

Our airlines are carrying more and more passengers, more and more miles and the percentage of fatalities is dropping.

We can assume that air travel is still one of the safest modes of travel and with recent developments should continue to so.
