OPERATION
CHICAGO, Ill., Sept. 30. "Operation X" has been instigated by the Chicago JACL to raise funds to support the Midwest district office and local chapter activities. The drive is being launched in conjunction with plans for the second annual carnival which will be held Oct. 24 and 25 in the Olivet Institute gym.
Co-chairmen Harry Mizuno and Tom Kanno announced that a 1953 Ford Customline sedan or the equivalent of $1800 cash will be awarded the winner. Second and third prizes of $300 and $150 in gift certificates along with seven other valuable prizes will be given away on the night of Oct. 25, climaxing the carnival and "Operation X".
Other committee members are Tom Okabe, southside coordinator; Tom Oye, northside coordinator; Arive Oda, tabulations; Alma Kurisu, secretary; George Tanaka, treasurer.
The north and south side coordinators are being assisted by area chairmen Helen Hori, Ed Morioka, Roy Iwata, Tom Teraji, Dr. Frank Sakamoto, Yukio Hashiguchi, Carl Nakamura, Smoky Sakurada and George Koyama.
Second Annual Carnival
CHICAGO, Ill., Sept. 30-Good food and sparkling refreshments will be in abundance at the annual two-day JACL carnival on Oct. 24 and 25, according to Helen Hori, chairman of the food division.
Sushi, barbecued sandwiches, hot dogs, noodles and pop are some of the food which will be featured in both the "Inn" and the concession hall.
The mammoth event will be held in the Olivet gym.
Chairmen Tom Teraji and Joe Maruyama are being assisted by the following: Fumi Fukuda, Yukio Ozima, Johnny Okamoto, Shig Kitahata, Mas Nagaro, Kiko Konagamitsu, Terry Uyeda, So. Nojima, Aki Tani, Linc Shimizu, George Naritoku, James Shimashita, Rose Sakata, Paul Seto, Hank Sakai, Frank Seto, James Kuwahara, Su Taguchi, Smoky Sakkurada, Jean Shimasaki, Kay Nishimoto, Esther Hagiwara, Tazi Domoto, Sue Omori, George Tanaka, Kats Okuno, Sumi Shimizu, Dr. Frank Sakamoto, and Louise Suski.
8th Annual Inaugural Ball
CHICAGO, Ill., Sept. 30 The beautiful "Breakers Room" of the Hotel Sherry in the heart of Chicago's southside will be the site of the Eighth Annual Inaugural Ball from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Nov. 28. Jimmy Ray and his orchestra which features vocalist Mickey Carroll will furnish the music, according to Dr. Frank Sakamoto, chairman.
Dr. Sakamoto stated that the committee hopes to go over the 200 ticket mark in sales and plans for additional entertainment and exciting features for the evening are being made to make this one of the biggest and best semi-formal balls ever to be put on by the local JACL chapter.
