The Agricultural Society of the County of Madison in the State of Illinois, held their third stated meeting in Edwardsville, on Monday, April 28.
The President, and Vice Presidents being absent, Capt. George C. Allen was chosen President pro tempore.
Mr. Robert Aldrich signed the Rules and Regulations, paid the initiation fee, and became a member.
The following resolutions were adopted:
Resolved, That a piece of plate of the value of five dollars, be presented, at the next November meeting of the Society, to the member who shall manufacture the best piece of linsey woolsey, not less than ten yards, to be exhibited at the said meeting.
Resolved, That a piece of plate of the value of five dollars, be presented, at the next meeting of the Society, in the spring of 1824, to the member who shall raise a year old lamb which shall produce the greatest quantity of wool.
Resolved, That a premium of ten dollars be awarded, at the next November meeting of the Society, to the person who shall produce the greatest number of wolf scalps, not less than five, taken by himself, after the 28th day of April, 1823, within the limits of the county of Madison.
Resolved, That a piece of plate of the value of five dollars be awarded at the next November meeting of the Society, to the member who shall raise, within this county, the best ox, bull, cow, steer or heifer, not less than one, nor more than four years old, to be exhibited at the next Agricultural Fair.
Resolved, That a piece of plate of the value of five dollars, be awarded, at the next November meeting of this Society, to the member who shall raise, within this county, the best horse, mare, or gelding, not less than one nor more than four years old, to be exhibited at the next Agricultural Fair.
Resolved, That in future the meetings of this Society shall be held on the first Wednesdays of March and November, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon.
Resolved, That a Fair be held in the town of Edwardsville, on the first Wednesday in November, annually, for the sale of horses, cows, sheep, hogs, and all agricultural and domestic produce. The Fair to commence at 9 o'clock in the forenoon.
Resolved, That the resolution of this Society, adopted April 22, 1822, appointing two Fairs a year in Edwardsville be rescinded.
The Society then adjourned.
