Miss Parrish Takes an Active Part In Stimulating Interest In Home Life Movement

Miss Claire Parrish of the extension division of the Utah Agricultural College of Logan has organized home economic clubs throughout the high schools of southern Utah with the view of increasing the interest in high schools and to improve home life and social conditions in the communities.

New home economic clubs were organized in the high schools at Richfield, Salina, Gunnison and Monroe.

Miss Parrish declared that in every school she found keen interest in the movement under the direction of the extension division and, she says, the students seemed to be determined to make a success of the clubs.

At Gunnison, Miss Parrish says the girls of the home economic clubs are beginning work for the Red Cross relief in Europe. They have asked the merchants there to furnish raw material and they intend to make garments to be sent to the distressed and homeless Belgians. The garments will all be useful articles, she says, and an example of the practical work done by the girls of the high school clubs of the state.

Miss Parrish believes the girls at Salina will be a great bunch of boosters. She says the town has had trouble in getting the high school well started and the girls intend to see that it does. While the town has a splendidly equipped building, the attendance is small and the girls of the home economic clubs are working to increase interest in the community and get more to attend the high school there.

At Richfield the girls clubs are working to equip the beautiful new building erected last year. They are planning, avers Miss Parrish, to present some special features for the annual roundup at Richfield this winter. The clubs here have already done much in the way of helping the school, she says, as most

In Monroe, Miss Parrish says she found another new and excellent high school building, but few students and the members of the home economic club there are also going to busy themselves converting the community into a keener interest for the school. She says the slogan among the girls is to have the high school the biggest institution in the town and they will not cease until this interest is created.

The girls in Monroe, as well as in Salina, intend to unite with the high school club girls of Richfield in big club doings for the roundup, she says.
