Chester, June 17.—Stefano Michele, an Italian, who resides at Thurlow, was arrested last evening by special officer Robert Watson of the P. W. & B. Railroad, at Lamokin Station for attempting to criminally assault Mary, daughter of James Dillon, who is twelve years old. Michele is in the lockup, and Officer Watson will swear out a warrant for his arrest this morning, before Alderman Stockman.
The girl's house is at No. 220 Church Street, and it is alleged that Michele met her last evening, shortly before 8 o'clock on Ashmead Street above Third. He enticed her to the Lamokin freight station, to which place he was followed by a party of young men. They informed Special Officer Watson, who had to open the station for the last train, and who told the young men to watch the couple and to notify him if any wrong doing was attempted.
The young men walked down back of the freight station, and caught Michele just as he was about to assault the girl. They brought him up to the passenger station, and Officer Watson summoned the police patrol.
The prisoner was taken to the lockup to await a hearing, and the girl was sent home. Michele seemed to be partially intoxicated, and would say nothing about the affair, which is likely to cause him considerable trouble.
