Price Of Milk Goes Up Here Effective January 15

A retail ceiling price of 15 cents a quart and eight and one half cents a pint on milk in the Jackson area, approved in Washington order last November, will go into effect generally on January 15, the Office of Price Administration said Tuesday. Retailers and distributors who have been charging lower prices have indicated that they will raise their prices on January 15 to conform with the new ceiling price according to OPA. The prevailing price for milk has been 14 cents and 8 cents.

The Jackson area, as defined in the order, including all territory within a radius of 15 miles from the State Capitol building and embraces Brandon, Clinton, Florence and all intervening points, Yazoo City and the towns located along U. S. Highway 49 between Jackson and Canton, including the Jackson Air Base and Mississippi Ordinance Plant.

Only exception to the Washington order is for Vitamin D milk which can be sold for 16 cents and nine and one half cents, according to OPA.

The Meridian and Vicksburg areas are now selling milk 16 cents a quart and in Birmingham and Mobile areas, the quart is priced at 17 and 18 cents.
