And so confirmed a truant, that she now
Over the hedges daily, and got pounded
'Twas all in vain to tie her with a tether,
For then both cow and calf eloped together
Arm'd with an oaken bough, (what folly
It should have been brick, or thorn or holly)
Patty one day was driving home the beast.
Which as usual had stoop'd in a furrow
When on the road she met a certain
Banker,
Who stoop'd to pay his trie to a farmer
By gazing on her features, rumpled high
By a hust now-then in July.
Are you from Acton, pretty lass? he cried?
Yes, sir, with a curtsy-she replied
"Why can't you know the landlady's, Sally, when?"
She in my court, sir, and out door next, excellent:
"That's lucky-I've a message for the woman,
Which needs dispatch, and you may pay my
Trouble-
Give her this kiss, my dear, and say I sent it,
But mind, you owe me one—I've truly lent 't
"She shall know," cried the girl, as she brandished
Her brush,
"Of the loving intrusions you have aim;
But as to the kiss, as there is no hunter, you'll allow
That you'd better run forward and give it to y cow
For she, at the rate she is whiskering by
Will easy arrow your minion before me,
Good OLD TIMES.
