Law Will Permit District To Bid On Canal Work

Property owners of the Imperial and Coachella valleys may be saved millions of dollars in the construction of the all American canal as the result of the passing of a bill yesterday by the California senate permitting the Imperial Irrigation District to bid on the construction.
It has been estimated by the district that the canal can be built at a total cost of approximately $20,000,000 which is some $18,000,000 less than the cost estimated by the United States should the contract be let to private parties.
The bill, prepared by Assemblyman Witter, now awaits the signature of the governor to become a law.
The Imperial Irrigation district yesterday forwarded contracts to the government covering the preliminary survey of the canal.
