An Irishman's Description of Grant's Reception at Hamilton
The beetling-browed inebriate of the White House passed through our city on last Monday, about eight o'clock. He occupied a splendid Pullman drawing room car, and when the train arrived near the depot, it stopped, as if awaiting a reception committee; but there was only about a dozen individuals present who considered it an honor to do homage to the tan-vat mummy of Galena. An Irish gentleman, whose curiosity had led him to look upon a President of this great country, gave us the following description of his august Majesty:
I niver seed a raal loive Prisident, an I thougbt I would avail meself of the prisiant opporchun ity. So I wint down to the day o, and passhed along the thrain ti ll I cum to the cair where they sa.id his honhor was. and begobs, Wi nat did I see?
