The Rodman Rifles visited Broadway church last evening on invitation from the pastor, Rev. J. R. Miller. The church was beautifully decorated with flags and evergreens, and around the balcony were canary birds warbling sweet music during the service. In front of the chancel was a magnificent floral cross, about five feet high, which was beautifully arranged, while behind the pulpit were flags interwoven with evergreens, and on tables at convenient distances were mammoth bouquets, floral designs and other decorations in and about the church that presented a really handsome appearance.
The military glee club sang some sacred music in their best manner, two of the selections, "Watchman tell us of the Night," and, "Nearer, my God to thee," were sung with fine pathos and excellent effect. Altogether the evening was one to be remembered by all who were present. The beautifully decorated church; the atmosphere permeated with floral aroma, and the sweet warbling of the canaries, helped to elevate the mind to higher and purer thoughts, as all listened to the very able discourse by the pastor. The Rifles were seated in the body of the church in full uniform and the church crowded to its fullest capacity.
