Full Text

Sluice Robbers. -The sluices in the claim of Wagner & Co., at Lancha Plana, were robbed of about fifteen or twenty ounces of gold last Friday night. The robbers displayed very little ingenuity in the management of the affair, as they carried the dust and quicksilver in a handkerchief, or some other substance which did not retain the quicksilver. The "dripping" of the quicksilver was tracked almost to the door of a cabin owned and occupied by some colored fellows who are never known to work. The next day, these same "colored individuals" went to Campo Seco, changed some dust, and treated themselves to new clothes. Taking all these things into consideration, the Lancha Plana folks have come to the conclusion that these "gentlemen darkies" are the sluice robbers, and that if they do not make themselves "scarce" in that neighborhood, they will wake up some morning and imagine they have been "struck with lightning"- Amador Sentinel.
