E. R. EDWARDS IS
NEW SCHOOL HEAD
CHOSEN AS SUPERINTENDENT
OVER LARGE FIELD OF APPLICANTS
COMES HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
TEACHING FORCE FOR COMING YEAR COMPLETE—SCHOOL OPENS SEPT. 6

The Sauk Centre School Board have the local teaching corps problem solved.
The list was completed Wednesday morning, when E. R. Edwards of Spring Valley, Minn., was elected as superintendent for the coming year, succeeding John C. West who resigned to take the superintendency of the Bemidji schools.
The selection of a superintendent was not an easy one. Within 24 hours after Mr. West's resignation had been accepted, about 50 school men of the Northwest were clamoring for the position, as Sauk Centre is recognized among educators as being one of the best schools in Minnesota.
The Herald editor met a number of the applicants personally and Mr. Edwards created decidedly the most favorable impression. He is 44 years old, clean-cut and alert and impresses one instantly as being big enough for the important work before him.
The new superintendent graduated from the Spring Valley high school in 1895. He was graduated from Carleton College, Northfield, with the degree of Bachelor of Science in 1902.
He took post graduate work at the University of Minnesota in 1904 and has been carrying on this work at irregular intervals ever since.
Mr. Edwards has had over 20 years of successful teaching experience. He was principal of the Minto, N. D., schools for seven years; then as superintendent at Jamestown, for three years. While serving at Jamestown, Mr. Edwards was appointed state inspector of high schools, serving under three administrations. He resigned because of bad political conditions following the advent of the Nonpartisan league in North Dakota.
For the past two years Mr. Edwards has been superintendent of the public schools at Yankton, S. D., and was re-elected, but resigned as he desired to again become a resident of his native state.
Clerk R. E. Hansen, this Thursday morning, received a wire from Mr. Edwards announcing his acceptance and he will come to Sauk Centre within a few days to take active charge of preparations for the new school year which commences Tuesday, Sept. 6.
All of the minor positions in the school were completed this week by electing teachers for the mixed grade and Junior high school civics.
