Full Text

A welcome home such as has seldom if ever been accorded a private citizen in America was given to William J. Bryan, the great Nebraska commoner at New York City last Thursday, when he landed on American soil, after a year's trip around the world, during which he has been greeted everywhere as one of the greatest of Americans. New York City was crowded with citizens from all parts of the country, and a magnificent testimonial of the confidence and regard of the American people for his honesty, sincerity, and exalted ideals was paid him. Madison Square Garden held 20,000 people, while the streets were packed for blocks with those who had come out to see him and welcome him home. Gov. Folk of Missouri, Tom Johnson of Ohio, and many prominent democrats of the country were present to welcome him with their voice and presence, and the response to the welcome by Mr. Bryan was pathetic and touching. It was a great occasion in honor of the home coming of a great citizen.
