Royal Whimsicality.--No one of England's monarchs has ever been more inconsistent and contradictory, at the same time that he has been expensive in his pleasures than George the Fourth. A few years ago nothing pleased him but Brighton, and now he will on no account go near the place, even to please his friends. He has spent immense sums in building, refitting and repairing his different palaces, but they all seem to displease him when finished. Several hundred thousand pounds sterling have been spent, squandered almost, in improving Windsor castle, in order, as it was stated, to make it a more fit place of residence for Royalty than any other in England; but with all this it is not agreeable, and he some time since signified his intention of not returning to it. The London Examiner says--'His Majesty has treated the Castle as Guy says men should serve a cucumber, namely, after dressing it with wondrous cost and care, fling away. Having put the nation to the charge of a castle, he finds that he can live more pleasantly in a cottage!' The Buckingham Palace, too, which has been built at an expense of millions of pounds, has never satisfied either the king, the people or the architect who planned and superintended it, and it will never, probably be occupied by any one. Such is the whim of royalty.--"So have we known," says the Examiner in some ill regulated nursery, little Miss bawl most persuasively for a goodly wax doll, which having been obtained, at great costs to the loving parents, she hath yet disregarded with possession, and returned to the caresses of the ancient; wooden Betsey. sans legs, sans arms, sans eyes, sans wig, sans every thing.
