Six thousand dollars annually for five years were voted to the University of New York, out of the United States deposit funds.
In the Assembly, the resolution of the Senate to adjourn on the second Monday in April was amended by substituting the 15th of that month, and sent back to the Senate. Mr. F. Allen, in the course of his observations on this subject, said that the members of the legislature were a nuisance to Albany, and that their habit of loafing round on Sundays was discreditable to them.
Mr. Mann's resolution respecting the diminution of postages, was carried.
Mr. P. King offered the following, which was ordered to be on the table:-
Resolved, That the Clerk of this House be directed to examine the bills that have been reported to this House, and ascertain and report to this House the amount of monies appropriated by said bills and also the amount of State Stock authorized by said bills to be issued, and the amount of debt which would be incurred by the State if these stocks should be issued, and the probable amount of constructing and completing the works of internal improvement in progress on the part of the State, and by companies or corporations asking aid by loan or appropriation from the State.
Mr. P. King explained that the object of the resolution was to concentrate all the information on the subject of appropriations for internal improvement, which was to be found on the records of the House, in order to expedite the action of the house when these matters should come up; and as the day of adjournment was fixed, which he was very glad had been done, the sooner this information was obtained the better.
