NOMINATION OF JUDGE McLEAN

This "just Man," as he is most appropriately denominated in a Cincinnati paper, has been nominated by the citizens of Ohio, as a candidate for the Presidency. The proceedings of the meeting at Lebanon, (where Mr. McLean resides) will be found in another column. They are distinguished, like the candidate whom they present, by mildness, tempered with firmness and dignity. The people, it would seem, are taking the Presidential question into their own hands. It is to be hoped, for the interests and honor of the Republic, that her Freemen will anticipate the labors of a packed office holders' National convention. This nomination of John McLean was made by independent Jackson men, who do not think proper to be transferred, like cattle, to the Kitchen Cabinet. - Albany Journal.
Judge McLean. We cannot see any reason why those who are opposed to the heir apparent, Mr. Van Buren, should indulge in any feelings against Judge McLean in consequence of his friends in Ohio and Pennsylvania bringing him forward as a candidate for the Presidency. We admit that there is an objection to his being a judge while he is a candidate, but it is not a constitutional nor yet an insuperable objection. A report has been circulated that Judge McLean is a bigot or a fanatic. We understand that he is a religious man, but we know personally that he is a very liberal man on matters of faith, and, withal, of pleasant, agreeable, and social habits. We should be very sorry to see the Chief Magistrate of this country destitute of religious principles. We cannot tell what may happen on this all absorbing topic, but we are determined to allow no honest, capable man to be misrepresented in this canvass for the Presidency. If Judge McLean can present a strong front, there can be no danger in uniting on him. N. Y. Star.
