$700,000 FOOD CARGO
ON SYRIAN RELIEF SHIP

New York, Oct. 23.—A cargo of foodstuffs and clothing valued at $700,000 will be sent probably this week, aboard a United States navy collier to Beirut, Syria, for the relief of refugees, it was announced here.

The response of the public throughout the country to President Wilson's proclamation making yesterday and today Armenian-Syrian relief days, has been very generous it was said.

The collier has been ordered by Secretary Daniels to put in at New York October 24. The foodstuffs to be sent to the suffering Armenians and Syrians will consist chiefly of rice, flour and crushed wheat.
