Boston, May 26.

Yesterday was celebrated the Annual Festivity of the election of the Executive and Legislative Departments of our State Government. The customs of our ancestors are sacred to their descendants: and the transactions of the day cannot be uninteresting to every class of our readers. It is a circumstance of peculiar gratulation to the citizens of this State that the same person who three years since was chosen to the Chief Magistracy, is still found worthy, after the most scrutinizing trial, of the increasing support of his fellow citizens :-and that the security of the Commonwealth is guaranteed by a large majority of federal members in the Legislature.

At ten o'clock the two Branches met in their several Chambers, and proceeded to the election of their officers.

In the Senate the Hon David Cobb, was unanimously re elected President. Mr. Wendell Davis Was then chosen Secretary.

In the House of Representatives, the whole number of votes for Speaker, was 200, and given as follows :

Welles, and proceeded to the Old South Meeting House, where an Anniversary Sermon was delivered by the Rev. Mr Purfey, of Berlin. The reputation of this gentleman as a scholar has been long known, and his discourse, fully evinced his talents as a man of literature and correct political principles. We have rarely heard a more learned and interesting discourse on similar occasions.

The services of the Church being ended, the procession was again formed, and escorted back to the New State House.

In the afternoon the two Houses assembled in Convention, for the purpose of filling up the vacancies in the Senate. The whole number of voters was 236-119 votes making a choice.
