Full Text

Daniel F. Stewart for State Senator received 405 votes; Woldin, 1619 votes; Hughey, 141 votes and Brown the Prohibitionist, 17 votes. It is wonderful what a large vote the Prohibitionist candidate polled and shows that the cause is growing in Delaware. Evidently the silver vote was not out, as only 1254 votes were cast for their candidate. The hard money Democrats done even better than the Prohibitionist and Silver Democrats combined, while the Republicans fairly whooped it up for their candidate upon whom all had agreed. It goes to show what can be done by the Republicans if they can only unite on a candidate. The late Robert J. Hanby was a Union Republican and Daniel F. Stewart is of the same brand. The Republicans thought he could be trusted to look after the interest of the city of Wilmington, and for that reason alone he was elected.
