Full Text

No one can come between us and George Brown, of Knoxville. He has been our earliest and most steadfast friend. His hand patted us on the head in boyhood, and his advice strengthened and encouraged us for the severer aspirations of manhood. We have made failures; George Brown never has—and we dont want him to inaugurate such an event at this late day. Just as we had thought we had been humbly instrumental in harmonizing for all time the conflicting elements in the First Judicial Circuit, here comes the Chronicle with George Brown's announcement for Circuit Judge against Jim King. And that is why we sorrow. George Brown has bad advisers. George Brown, uninfluenced, would never have stepped in front of posterity at such a crisis as this George Brown is as full of magnanimity and honor as a cocoanut of milk, and George Brown will one day thank us for repudiating and condemning this strange and unnatural freak of his friends, that gives us pain and does himself injustice.
