Naval Battle on the Coast of Maine.
PORTLAND, July 24.—A special dispatch from Bar Harbor this morning says the schooner Virginia has arrived at Steuben, from Boston at 10 o'clock. Off Petit Manan in the bay both craft appeared to be standing southwest. The stranger fired twice at the Virginia, when she returned the fire, and after a spirited engagement of half an hour, the stranger hauled down her colors and struck. She proved to be the British schooner Margaret and Jane, of St. John's, N. B., from Nassau, near Charleston. Capt. Smith.
