In response to a petition signed by the Natives in the Kobuk region asking that the open season on muskrats be extended, word was received by the Alaska Game Commission from the U. S. Biological Survey headquarters in Washington, D. C., extending the season north of the Unalakleet River from April 1 to June 7 and south of the Unalakleet River from April 1 to May 31.
It was announced at Juneau recently.
The petition is now on its way to Washington, D. C., and the action was taken upon radio word that the petition had been received and forwarded. The quick action was made possible by the presence of H. W. Terhune, Executive Officer of the Alaska Game Commission in Washington.
