Portsmouth, Aug. 4. - The Greely relief squadron leaves for New York on Tuesday night and proceeds to Governor's Island, where the dead victims of the expedition will be turned over to General Hancock.
This afternoon the survivors of the expedition were put under the care of the War Department. A reception, by General Hazen, of the survivors was held quietly here to-day, and to-morrow or on Monday a formal demonstration in honor of the return of Greely will be held.
The organization of the Naval Division is on hand to participate in the completed naval division of the parade which will consist of six sub-divisions comprising the naval cadets, naval apprentices, marines and sailors from the North Atlantic fleet. Besides his division the parade will comprise military and civil organizations, five companies, the municipal government of Portsmouth and of Newburyport, and the State authorities. On Monday evening a congratulatory meeting will be held at Music Hall, at which Secretary Chandler is expected to preside.
