Suspects Taken In Slaying Case

While the death of Ed Montgomery, colored, of Calipatria still remains a mystery, two men were picked up by county authorities late Saturday and an investigation into their activities early last week may throw some light on the slaying of the colored man, it is believed by police. They are: Emiliano Carona, 28 and Andrew Avelino, 30. The men were arrested at a camp north of Niland.

The information furnished police in the case thus far is to the effect that an argument arose during a card game in the restaurant conducted by Montgomery and that it was quieted by the colored man.

Montgomery is said to have put one of the men out of the place and that when he returned it was discovered that he had been stabbed in the stomach. He was taken to the Brawley hospital where he died early Friday morning.
