If we must have a Standing Army, they ought to be made serviceable to the Publick.
In other Countries, they mend and keep the Roads in Repair, as they ought to do here, and save the Travellers the Charge of Turnpikes.
It is to be observed, as four Men were concerned in robbing the said Mail, any one who discovers the other three of his Accomplices, will be entitled, on Conviction of each Offender, to the following Rewards, viz.
By the Post-Master General, 200 l.
His Majesty's Proclamation if within five Miles of London, 100 l.
By Act of Parliament for apprehending Highwaymen, 40 l.
340 l.
Upon which it appears, that any one of the Offenders, who impeaches the other three, will, on all their Convictions, be entitled to One Thousand and Twenty Pounds Reward.
