Three Supervisors To Direct Play At Two Centers
The summer supervised recreation program in Farmville opens Wednesday with activities planned at the Grove Street Recreation Park and at the high school field.
Under auspices of the Farmville Recreation Association the program this year provides three adult supervisors Mrs. I. W. Brooks, Jr. and Miss Shirley Blankenship a Longwood senior of Ringgold at the Grove Street center and Billy Franklin a North Carolina State Junior at the high school field.
Mrs. Brooks said today the supervised program will be carried on each afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. until after Vacation Bible Schools close on June 27 and thereafter the daily schedule will be 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m.
5 Days Weekly
The summer schedule of supervised play will operate Monday through Friday each week Mrs. Brooks said the recreation areas would not be open Saturdays or on bad weather days during the week.
At the Grove Street center Mrs. Brooks and Miss Blankenship will direct recreation in arts and crafts hobbies and supervised individual and competitive team games The spray pool will again be a center of fun and comfort.
Franklin will succeed Claude Milam of Hampden-Sydney as supervisor of the younger boys baseball program which will again include the organized little league
Little League Again
The baseball program hours will be the same as those for the Grove Street center with full-time activities starting June 27 after the close of Bible schools
Mrs. Brooks said the activities at Grove Street will be highlighted again with periodic displays and shows for the public these will include work in hobbies and the annual puppet show
The program is financed and given overall direction by the Farmville Recreation Association
Funds are provided through the annual Community Chest drive the Association being one of the 12 participating community agencies in that organization
The Recreation program is provided for community and county youngsters aged five to 13 inclusive.
