The Canada Investigation.

OTTAWA, Ont., Sept. 12.-The commission met again at noon to-day and were engaged a long time on McMullen's deposition. It was further questioned by Judge Gowan and Sir John McDonald. Hon. C. Lopais was then examined in French, but no evidence of importance was elicited. He most positively denied that any understanding had been come to by the government with Sir Hugh having relation to the supply of funds for the election of the latter. He said Sir Francis Hincks had favored the idea of employing American capitalists, but that Sir George Cartier strongly opposed it. Hon. Mr. Starres was recalled. Before hearing his deposition read he stated that $65,573 was the exact amount of money subscribed to assist Sir George's election. Mr. Starres's deposition was then signed, and the commission adjourned.
