Observe Anniversary

NAD Marines celebrated the 173rd anniversary of the Marine Corps with a dance last Wednesday evening at the permanent recreation building.

The arrangements were made by a Dance Committee headed by M/Sgt. E. A. Benton.

Music was provided by Joe Ahlin and his orchestra.

Refreshments, included beer, soda and snacks.

Marines and their guests enjoyed the annual banquet in the barracks mess hall earlier in the evening.

Major T. K. Lyford presided at the cake-cutting ceremony at the dance. The cake was baked by Sgt. O. D. Newbury, famed baker of the Marine Barracks.

Major Truman K. Lyford, USMC, Commanding Officer at Marine Barracks, NAD, presided over the ceremonies honoring the Marine Corps on its 173rd anniversary.

Major Lyford is a veteran of Commando training in Scotland and shipboard duty on the USS Wasp during the war.
