GRAND DISPLAY. About 1 o'clock on Tuesday last, we were amused by the appearance of an enormous procession entering our village from the south, consisting of about sixty two-horse and ox teams, and as many brace of the jolly sons of swate Ireland, with shouldered spades and 'streamers flying,' marching to the exhilarating note of the bugle. They were greeted by our fellow-citizens with discharge of artillery accompanied by the ringing of bells and the repeated huzzas of the crowd that had collected to witness its approach. The cause was soon ascertained. It seems that Mr. Johnson the enterprising and energetic contractor on a section of the Canal situated in South Lancaster, after having performed prodigies of labor, had completed an excavation of 60,000 yards, and having arranged his teams and workmen in the manner stated was proceeding to the Hotel in our village for the purpose of partaking of dinner and enjoying a comfortable retreat from his labors. Mr. Johnson is deserving of great credit for his indefatigable perseverance in triumphing over every obstacle that presented itself during the execution of his great work.
