Two Perryville Gambling Houses Yield Ninety Four Prisoners

For the second time within the last two weeks Sheriff Eugene Racine and his deputies visited Perryville, this county, Saturday and raided two more alleged well-equipped race-track bookmaking establishments.

The first place raided was operated by James Carson, it is alleged. He was arrested and taken to Elkton, where he was later released under bond for a hearing before Police Magistrate Manly Drennen. Sixty three other men found in the place were technically placed under arrest.

The second place raided was about two blocks distant, and is alleged operated by Harry Walters, who was placed under arrest. Twenty-nine other men found in the place were also technically arrested. Walters also was taken to Elkton, and later released under bond pending a hearing.

All the paraphernalia found in both places was confiscated and hauled to the county jail in Elkton. Before making the raids the officers cut the telephone wires and prevented any of those on the inside of the first establishment raided from escaping. The occupants were held inside the first building by the Sheriff while his deputies raided the second place.

According to report an alleged bookie establishment, operated for some time past on the outskirts of Rising Sun, was visited and closed up by the officers.
