The above privateer had also taken a Ship from London for Virginia, but last from the Isle of May with Salt, who fought the Frenchman several Glasses, and killed some of their Men, and after having pillaged the Vessel and took the Crew, they scuttled and sunk her; they used the English in a barbarous Manner for having so gallantly defended their Ship, stripping them of every Thing even to their Shirts...
The privateer had also taken several Whalemen, one of which they ransomed for 400 Dollars, on board of whom they put all the prisoners, who were landed at Newport last Wednesday Night...
They gave out that they sailed from Martinico in Company with several other privateers, who were likewise to cruise along the Continent...
The privateer sometime before he took Capt. Henshaw, fell in with a Letter of Marque Brig supposed for Philadelphia, who fought her several Hours, and after killing 8 of her Hands, and wounding several others, obliged her to sheer off.
