This Day his Majesty came to the House of Peers, and gave the Royal Assent to the Bill for continuing the Duty on Malt, Mum, Cyder, &c. for the Year 1737: And to Two Naturalization Bills.
This Day the House of Commons received a Message from his Majesty, signifying his Pleasure, for an Appanage to their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales, out of the Civil List; and after great Debates, the Question was put, To address his Majesty, to grant 100,000 l. per Annum, out of the Civil List Revenue? It passed in the Negative, 234 against 204. Afterwards the House agreed to 75,000 l. per Annum.
Deaths. Col. Scot of the first Regiment of Foot Guards. Justice Newton of Milford-Lane. Francis Newport, Esq; in his Way to Town, from the West of England. Charles Warthford, Esq; of Berkshire. Sir Robert Cowan, lately chosen Member of Parliament, in the room of John Goddard, Esq; deceased. William Chamberlain, Esq; Davison, Esq; in Featherstone Buildings, suddenly. William Herriot, Esq: formerly Captain of a Man of War.
Accidents. On Sunday a Fire broke out in the Evening, in the Vestry of St. Mary Abchurch, in Abchurch Lane, which in a few Minutes consum'd the same; but no good Account is given how this Accident came. Two Boats overset in the River, but the Passengers saved. Mills, Willamon, and another Man, drank Gin at a Gin-shop, in Hospital Row, Chelsea, to that Degree that Mills was found dead on a Dung-hill near the said House, and Willamon's Life is despair'd of. A Man found drown'd in the Serpentine River, in Hyde-Park. A Man dropp'd down dead in Bow Street. Mr. Andrew Theobald riding to Wandsworth, near a Ditch, a Carman crack'd his Whip, which frightn'd his Horse, by this Accident the young Man was thrown, and the Horse fell upon him in the Ditch and kill'd him. Thomas Mudd, of Carnaby Market, offering to sit in his Wife's Lap, after a Fit of ill Humour, she stabb'd him thro' the Back with a Knife. The Coroner's Inquest have brought in their Verdict Wilful Murder. A Youth in Love, at Southwell in Nottinghamshire, we are told, has castrated himself, for the Sake of an unkind, hard hearted Creature, but is likely to do well after the Job.
