Knoxville.

Last week we spent a couple of days in this flourishing city, and found her citizens in peaceable possession of the place. We called upon and enjoyed the society of one esteemed friend and late comrade, Col. John Croxlow, the talented editor of the Knoxville Whig. He had just returned from the Radical Mass-Meeting held at Cleveland, which had been addressed by Hon. Horace Maynard, who, he informed us, delivered one of his most effective and eloquent speeches in favor of the Congressional policy of reconstruction.

We also had the pleasure of calling upon this distinguished member of the East Tennessee delegation in Congress, in company with Col. Brownlow, and found him in the enjoyment of health, and full of Radical Union hope for the future of our glorious country.

Knoxville and Kentucky Rail Road.

We were pleased to meet, whilst in Knoxville, with Col. Charles M. McGhee, the indomitable and persevering President of the Knoxville and Kentucky Railroad, and from him learned that this important branch of improvement in East Tennessee was being pushed forward rapidly, the track now turning to Clinton given opposite the town of Clinton, in Anderson county. President McGhee is a thorough go-ahead gentleman: once a rebel, but now knows how to behave himself and let politics alone. We hope soon to hear his trains thundering through the gloomy recesses of our north-west. One minute's on their way to Cincinnati.
