The New Ticket.
The reader will find a report of the brief address of Mr. G. C. WALKER, the nominee of the Administration Republican ticket,
delivered yesterday evening from the Capitol steps.
Messrs. STEARNS and John B. Crenshaw also addressed the meeting.
Mr. Walker was frank and unreserved,
and his remarks relative to the disastrous effect of intolerance and disfranchisements upon the prosperity of the State are especially just and acceptable.
Messrs. STEARNS and Crenshaw were entirely undisguised and earnest in their conservatism.
These speeches were rarities in this community.
It has been a long time since such comprehensive, liberal, and wise views were heard within the boundaries of the Capitol Square.
That place has been scandalized by so much that was false, vindictive, and barbarous,
that we had almost begun to think it appropriated to diabolism.
Those who heard the new kind of views uttered there yesterday were no doubt cheered by the bare fact of the change.
It is a good sign.
