NEW YORK-(ANP)--Beautiful Carroll Prake Faulkner, the model named by a Harlem minister as the recipient of many "expensive gifts from Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis," will deny her husband's charges next week and claim that the prizefighter was merely one of many famous friends.
Mrs. Faulkner, whose husband is a U. S. Army chaplain, is the mother of two children. According to her lawyer, Amos E. Bowman, the formal answer will consist of 5,000 words and will emphatically deny that Joe Louis ever had romantic designs on her.
To bolster her answer, Mrs. Faulkner instituted habeas corpus proceedings against her husband last week-end by demanding custody of the children pending the outcome of the couple's court battle.
In papers filed by his attorney, John T. Doles, Jr., Rev. Faulkner charged that his wife had accepted furs, jewelry and other expensive favors from the champion; and had finally told the clergyman in apparent disgust that she no longer loved him.
