A Model County—Temperance on the Reserve Again.

Medina county is one of the most thoroughly organized counties in the State of Ohio. There are Temperance Leagues in every township, and then there is a County Society, which holds its meetings at stated periods in the different central neighborhoods.

The women of the county are as earnest in the work as the foremost men. Mrs. Bronson, of Medina village, one of the officers of the Women's State Society, has lectured with good effect in many of the townships.

Recently I attended a County Convention, at Wadsworth Center. The attendance was large and the interest earnest.

The women took part in the Convention, and a Committee of Matrons was appointed to prepare resolutions expressing their sentiments.

They resolved, that all men who upheld the liquor traffic were enemies of women, and then declared, "We would not vote for any candidate for any civil office, who was not known to be a Temperance man."

This was considered emphatically a bold movement—rather too bold. The resolution was amended—“Had we the right of suffrage, we would not vote, etc."

Then the ladies resolved, that if the present Legislature did not do something emphatic for Temperance, "petitions in boots" must be sent there next winter.

Such resolutions show that the women of Medina are in earnest, and "where there's a will, there's a way."

The resolutions reported by the Gentlemen's Committee were as follows:

1st. Resolved, That Society has a right to self protection.

2nd. Resolved. That the circumstances of our day, demand that society should protect itself from the evils of the sale of intoxicating liquors.

3d. Resolved, That this protection may be secured by prohibitory laws.

4th. Resolved, That as citizens of Ohio, regarding the best interests of our fellow-citizens and our Commonwealth ; we demand that our Legislature shall pass such laws as will secure the utter prohibition of the traffic in intoxicating drinks.

5th. Resolved, That as members of society, we will on all occasions, endeavor so to direct our influence, that it shall set firmly against the use of intoxicating drinks.

6th. Resolved, That the whole duty of a temperance man, is not discharged when he has given his name to a petition for the prohibition of the liquor traffic.

7th. Resolved. That we will not have such laws as the times require, until we stand by our Temperance principles in the capacity of Legislature makers as well as in the capacity of members of Temperance Leagues.

8th. Resolved, That we will begin at this work, as Democrats, Whigs and Free Soilers.

After animated discussion, these resolutions were adopted by a large majority.

They were calculated to elicit warm discussion, and the speeches made upon them, disseminated much useful information and deepened the interest in Temperance Reform.

The time has gone by when Conventions should resolve, that the use of liquors as a beverage, is injurious to individuals and detrimental to society.

That is established let it be considered a principle, and taking a step forward, let Conventions resolve upon what the present aspect of Temperance Reform demands.

Because they are aimed directly at the liquor business, as it now stands, we like the Wadsworth Resolutions and we recommend their spirit and their position to the friends of Temperance Reform throughout the State.
