SHOCKING.
A duel was fought on Thursday, the 25th ultimo, at the United States' Arsenal near Augusta, in Georgia, between two young men, by the names of Cogdell and Wigfall, the former of Charleston, and the latter of Edgefield District, and both recently fellow-students, and, it is said, room-mates at Yale College, in New-Haven, where the controversy between them is said to have originated. We have seen a letter from a relation of one of the parties which gives the following particulars : Cogdell gave the challenge, and Wigfall in accepting it proposed that they should be shut up in a room together, and should fight with dirks--but this was refused as unusual, and Wigfall refused pistols, but proposed rifles. Cogdell's second declined, and this point was referred to officers in the army, who decided in favour of the rifle. They accordingly met with rifles, at the distance of thirty paces, and at the word fire, Wigfall received the ball of his antagonist in the centre of his body below the breast bone, and died the next day. It is understood that Cogdell was urged by his own father to send the challenge.
