Washington, March 8.

General Lafayette arrived at Raleigh, the seat of Government of North Carolina, on Wednesday last, a day earlier than he was expected. He was received with most respectful greetings by the authorities of the State, and with open arms by the People. He was welcomed by the Governor of the State in a neat Address, and in another by Colonel William Polk, a compatriot of the Revolutionary War. The Students of the University of the State, distant thirty miles from the spot, repaired in a body to meet him, and with him viewed Canova's Statue of Washington.

He partook of a Public Dinner and Ball on the day and evening of his arrival, received visits on the following morning, and on the afternoon of Thursday resumed his route to the South.
