"On Saturday evening last, about eight o'clock, was picked up by the master and crew of the schooner Eagle belonging to Mr. Coats, of this island (the owner himself being on board) close by the Sugar-Loaves, on the island of St. Lucia, a mulatto man, master of a French schooner, which had sailed a few days before from Tobago, bound to St. Vincent, and from thence to Martinico. The man had sat upon a box 24 hours in the sea, and was almost exhausted with fatigue at the time of his being discovered. The vessel overset by accident, the crew, 15 soldiers and an officer, were drowned, the master being the only person saved. The schooner had also 900 joes in cash on board."
