Preacher Tells Delegates to Stop Telling Stuff Child Must Unlearn
Benton county sent fifteen to 20 delegates to the Sunday convention held at the Central M. E. church at Spokane last week. Mr. Locker, secretary of the council of religious education, had charge of the program.
Local delegates were Mrs. Clark, Richland, Floyd Hutchins, Dale Smith, Mrs. T. W. Payne and Mrs. M. S. Kinkaid, Rev. and Mrs. Thompson and three other delegates from Finley. Five hundred registered delegates represented almost every community in the Inland Empire.
Prof. M. A. Henline of Pasadena, California was a headline attraction for the general assembly. All of his lectures were good but the one creating most interest was "Jesus, the Master Teacher." "Never teach your child anything he must unlearn when he grows up. Yes, that means Santa Claus too," he said. "When young people are taught in Sunday school things that do not coincide with facts, established in other departments of human knowledge, they decide the whole teaching is unreliable." R. McEntire of Kansas, said "Sixty per cent of our Sunday School pupils are from non-Christian homes, What a field for adult workers."
Benton county delegates joined with Yakima delegates in its effort to secure the 1929 convention. Plenty of good apples and the organized effort of the two delegations won the day for Yakima.
